NSCDC Warns Officers Against Voter Intimidation, Accidental Discharge in FCT Elections

Commandant of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Command, Dr. Olusola Odumosu, has cautioned officers deployed for the FCT area council elections against accidental discharge, intimidation, and harassment of voters.

Odumosu issued the warning while addressing over 4,000 personnel assigned to monitor the elections across the FCT’s 2,822 polling units before their deployment. He charged the officers to ensure adequate security coverage and contribute to a peaceful, credible, and seamless electoral process.

The Commandant emphasized that professionalism, neutrality, and strict adherence to operational guidelines remain non-negotiable throughout the exercise.

“My charge, as always, is that you remain professional and non-partisan. You belong to no political party. Our duty is security; protection of lives and critical infrastructure. I do not want to hear that any officer worked for a political party or candidate,” Odumosu warned.

Meanwhile, reports from various polling locations indicate a peaceful voting process. At Durumi 1 polling unit, which witnessed a large turnout of voters, the village head, Yohanna Ishaku, confirmed that the exercise was progressing smoothly.

Voting was also reported to be ongoing peacefully at the NIPOST polling unit, Area 2 polling units, and Durumi 2, with electoral activities proceeding without disruption.
