NUT Protest: Security Agencies Working Round The Clock To Rescue Abducted Teachers, Students – Wike

By Eunice Orike, Abuja

The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, has assured protesting teachers and civil society groups in Abuja that government and security agencies are working hard to rescue abducted teachers and students.

Wike gave the assurance on Tuesday when the protesters gathered at the FCTA Secretariat, demanding urgent action over recent school kidnappings.

He said security operatives are already making efforts to ensure the safe return of the victims, adding that the government is fully focused on the situation.

According to him, “We are all worried about this insecurity challenge. The government is doing everything possible to make sure those kidnapped are brought back safely.”

He also expressed confidence that security agencies will succeed in rescuing the abducted teachers and students, stressing the need for quick action.

At the same time, Wike cautioned against turning insecurity into a political issue, saying the problem affects the entire country and should be treated as a shared national concern.

He noted that similar incidents have happened in other states without similar protests in Abuja, urging Nigerians to respond with unity rather than division.

The minister further explained that security agencies are following proper procedures and have made progress in ongoing rescue operations, even though the situation remains challenging.

He added that no government would willingly allow its citizens to remain in danger, insisting that efforts are ongoing to protect lives and property.

Wike also called for national support and cooperation, saying insecurity in any part of the country ultimately affects everyone.

The protest came amid rising concern over school kidnappings in parts of the country, with teachers and civil groups calling for stronger protection of schools and faster rescue of victims.
