The All Progressives Congress (APC) has described Mr. Abayomi Hunye as an impostor and warned members of the public against dealing with him as a representative or governorship candidate of the party in Ogun State.
The party, in a disclaimer issued by its National Secretary, Senator Surajudeen Ajibola Basiru, said Hunye is currently suspended from the APC and has no authority to present himself as the party’s candidate for the 2027 Ogun State governorship election.
The APC said Hunye’s recent self-declaration as the party’s governorship candidate was “false, unauthorized and mischievous,” alleging that the move was intended to mislead members of the public and stakeholders.
According to the party, Hunye was suspended on April 7, 2026, following a petition from his ward, Tube Ward, in Ipokia Local Government Area of Ogun State.
The suspension, it explained, was initiated by the ward executives, ratified by the Ipokia Local Government Area and subsequently approved by the Ogun State Working Committee before being communicated to the party’s National Headquarters.
The APC attributed the suspension to alleged “nefarious dealings” and “anti-party activities,” which it said included actions capable of damaging the image of the party and creating disaffection and division among its members.
Consequently, the party maintained that Hunye lacks the legal and moral standing to represent the APC in any capacity.
The party further declared that, following its governorship primary election, Senator Adeola Solomon Olamilekan remains its duly nominated candidate for the 2027 Ogun governorship election, with Balogun Kudirat Abiodun as his running mate.
The APC said the names and particulars of Olamilekan and Abiodun had been successfully uploaded to the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) portal in accordance with the Electoral Act, 2026, and relevant INEC guidelines.
It added that official acknowledgement slips had been issued by the electoral commission, confirming the submission of the candidates’ profiles.
Documents attached to the disclaimer indicated that the candidate profile for Olamilekan as APC governorship candidate and that of Abiodun as deputy governorship candidate were submitted on Friday, August 7, 2026, at 6:08 p.m.
The party warned individuals, groups and organisations against associating or conducting political transactions with Hunye under the name of the APC, saying anyone who does so would be acting at their own risk.
It also warned that the party would not be responsible for any financial loss, legal dispute or criminal liability arising from such dealings.
The APC disclosed that it had directed its legal team to commence contempt proceedings and lodge a formal complaint with relevant security agencies over what it described as “gross misrepresentation and impersonation.”
The party also urged media organisations and the general public to disregard publications, interviews or documents emanating from Hunye in relation to the APC.
It cautioned media houses against providing Hunye with platforms to propagate what it described as false claims, warning that such actions could amount to complicity in a fraudulent act.
While urging its supporters to remain calm and law-abiding, the APC appealed to all stakeholders to disregard provocations capable of disrupting peace in Ogun State.
The party said official clarification and updates on its activities should be obtained from the APC National Secretariat through the Office of the National Secretary.
The disclaimer was signed by Senator Surajudeen Ajibola Basiru, Ph.D., National Secretary of the APC.
