The General Officer Commanding (GOC) 1 Division Nigerian Army and Commander, Sector 1, Operation FANSAN YAMMA, Major General Abubakar Sadique Muhammad Wase, has assured the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) of the Division’s support towards ensuring a peaceful and secure conduct of the forthcoming 2027 general elections.
Wase gave the assurance on Wednesday, November 4, 2026, when the Administrative Secretary, who is serving as the Acting Resident Electoral Commissioner in Kaduna State, Abba Yahaya, paid him a courtesy visit at the Division’s headquarters.
In a statement issued on Wednesday and signed by the Deputy Director, Army Public Relations, 1 Division Nigerian Army, Colonel Abubakar Abdullahi, the GOC said the Nigerian Army had, over the years, acquired considerable experience in supporting critical civil institutions, particularly during electoral activities.
He explained that the Army would concentrate on providing outer-perimeter security while maintaining professionalism, neutrality and an apolitical posture throughout the electoral process.
The GOC further assured INEC that security arrangements had made all local government areas across Kaduna State accessible and safe for the conduct of elections.
He, however, urged the electoral body to intensify voter education and ensure that its ad-hoc personnel were adequately informed about the specific responsibilities of the various security agencies deployed for election duties.
Earlier, Yahaya said his visit was part of efforts to engage key stakeholders in the state ahead of the forthcoming elections.
He commended the cordial working relationship between INEC and security agencies, particularly the Nigerian Army, while calling for stronger collaboration to address potential challenges during the electoral process.
