Former Kano State Governor, Senator Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, has officially joined the African Democratic Congress (ADC), confirming his defection from the New Nigeria Peoples Party.
Kwankwaso announced his move on Monday after obtaining his membership card, putting an end to weeks of speculation over his next political destination.
He also called on members of the Kwankwasiyya movement and his supporters across the country to align with the ADC as the party intensifies preparations for the 2027 general elections.
Political observers say the defection is expected to strengthen the ADC, particularly in northern Nigeria, given Kwankwaso’s established political structure and loyal support base.
The move signals a significant shift in Nigeria’s political landscape, especially considering the influence of the Kwankwasiyya movement in Kano State and across the northern region.
Analysts believe the development could reshape political alliances ahead of the 2027 elections, although its full implications are yet to unfold.
