Former President of the Senate, Dr. Ahmad Lawan, has commend his supporters over grassroots fundraising initiative that has so far generated about N188 million in pledges and donations toward the purchase of his governorship nomination and expression of interest forms for the 2027 election under the ruling All Progressives Congress, APC in Yobe State.
Lawan, who is representing Yobe North Senatorial District, particularly praised the Coalition of Yobe East Progressive Youths, led by Dr. Mohammed Yerima, for what he described as “a demonstration of responsible citizenship” and a redefinition of grassroots political participation.
The fundraiser, according to a statement released on Monday by the former Senate President’s media adviser, Dr. Ezrel Tabiowo, was held on Sunday in Damaturu, the capital of Yobe State.
The statement revealed that pledges, cash and transfers to Sterling Bank 0126966292 arrived Sunday, many in N100‑N3,000 gifts from widows, apprentices, traders and students, which it said touched the governorship hopeful.
“That, to me, is the true definition of grassroots participation and community ownership. You have not only raised funds for forms; you have redefined what it means to be progressive citizens of Yobe State,” Lawan said.
The former Senate President called the donations “true grassroots ownership” and said they invest in open, accountable government for Yobe.
He described his 2027 governorship bid as answering the people’s call and prayed for guidance.
