Former Abia State governor, Senator Orji Uzor Kalu has assured the people of Abia North Senatorial District of more projects that would make life worthy of living for them after securing a landslide win in the senatorial primary for the 2027 election.
He thanked President Bola Tinubu, APC national and state leaders, the OUK Movement, Reality Organization, his supporters, and the entire people of Abia North for the victory.
Kalu polled 65,651 votes to defeat his challenger, Prof. Philip Nto, who got 2,103 votes, in the direct primary held across Abia North’s 57 wards. Out of 72,028 registered voters, 69,441 were accredited and 67,854 votes were cast, according to the APC Primary Election Committee.
In a statement Tuesday, the chairman, Senate Committee on South East Development Commission, SEDC, called the result “a humbling reaffirmation of the trust and confidence” placed in him.
“Most importantly, I thank my beloved people of Abia North, the good people of Arochukwu, Ohafia, Bende, Isuikwuato, and Umunneochi. Your love, prayers, support, and trust over the years continue to inspire me,” he said.
The former Chief Whip of the Senate said his focus since 2019 has been giving Abia North a stronger voice and delivering projects.
Kalu revealed that he has sponsored over 20 bills covering governance, security, education, infrastructure, industrialization, and economic growth, including amendments to the Cabotage Act, Armed Forces Act, Electoral Act, and bills on food banks, tax crimes, and green mobility.
On infrastructure, he said his office facilitated more than 70 road projects across the five local government areas of the senatorial district.
He also listed interventions in healthcare, with free services for mothers, the elderly, and vulnerable groups under the National Health Insurance Scheme, NHIS and in education, with over 100 schools renovated or built and learning materials distributed.
Kalu further pointed to industrial projects in the district, including a completed cashew processing factory in Igbere and ongoing solar panel and keke manufacturing plants.
He added that thousands of women and youths have benefited from empowerment programs with tools and equipment, and that erosion and flood control work has been done in affected communities.
Pledging more development if re-elected in 2027, Kalu said “leadership must always be about building a stronger tomorrow for our people.”
“Together, we will continue to build a more prosperous, united, and progressive Abia North,” he said, ending with “Abia North, mma-mma nu!”
