70% of FCT projects completed under Tinubu were abandoned for over 15 years – Wike

By Eunice Orike

Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, has said that about 70 per cent of the projects completed by the FCT Administration under President Bola Tinubu were contracts that had been abandoned for between 15 and 16 years.

Wike said the decision to revive and complete the abandoned projects was in line with President Tinubu’s directive that viable government projects should not be left unfinished.

Speaking during his monthly media briefing in Abuja on Thursday, the minister said the FCT Administration made it a priority to complete inherited projects before starting new ones.

According to him, leaving the projects abandoned would have wasted public funds and denied residents the infrastructure they needed.

“The President made it clear that we should not abandon old projects. At the same time, we must also start new ones.

“Most of the projects we have completed over the past three years were awarded about 15 or 16 years ago but were abandoned. We decided to complete them because Nigerians deserve to benefit from those investments.

“Today, I can confidently say that we have completed about 70 per cent of those abandoned projects,” he said.

Wike explained that while the administration was completing inherited projects, it also embarked on new road and infrastructure projects across Abuja and the satellite towns.

He credited the progress recorded in the FCT to President Tinubu’s support, especially the decision to remove the FCT Administration from the Treasury Single Account (TSA), which he said made funds more accessible for project execution.

The minister assured residents that the administration would continue to invest in roads and other infrastructure to improve transportation, open up more districts and enhance the living conditions of people in the Federal Capital Territory.
