Nigeria Immigration Service (NIS) and the Repatriation and Departure Service (R&DS) of the Ministry of Justice and Security of the Kingdom of the Netherlands have strengthened their long-standing partnership with the donation of specialised equipment to enhance the operations of the NIS Hostmanship Unit.
The equipment was presented at the NIS Headquarters in Abuja as part of ongoing efforts to build institutional capacity and improve service delivery.
Receiving the equipment, Comptroller-General of Immigration, Kemi Nandap, described the donation as another milestone in the more than two decades of collaboration between the Nigeria Immigration Service and the Kingdom of the Netherlands.
Nandap said the equipment would strengthen the Hostmanship Unit’s training capacity, improve operational efficiency, and deepen the institutionalisation of the Hostmanship philosophy across the Service.
According to her, the initiative was aimed at promoting professionalism, courtesy, empathy, and quality service by ensuring that every Officer makes people feel welcomed, respected, and valued at every point of contact.
She said, “The equipment represents a strategic investment in institutional excellence, professionalism, and a culture of courtesy, empathy and outstanding service. The philosophy encourages every Immigration Officer to make people feel welcomed, respected and valued at every point of contact.”
The Chargé d’Affaires of the Embassy of the Kingdom of the Netherlands in Abuja, Mr. Ronald Sonnemans, described the partnership with the NIS as a model of sustained international cooperation.
He reaffirmed the Netherlands’ commitment to supporting initiatives that strengthen migration management and institutional capacity in Nigeria.
The partnership between both institutions has led to the training of hundreds of Immigration Officers, the establishment of a dedicated Hostmanship Unit, and continuous capacity-building under the European Union-funded Capacity Building and Relationship Management (CBR) Project.
The NIS said the latest support reflects the commitment of both countries to promoting innovation, knowledge sharing, and improved migration management while enhancing public confidence through quality service delivery.
The Service also expressed appreciation to the Government of the Kingdom of the Netherlands and the Repatriation and Departure Service for their sustained support, pledging to make effective use of the donated equipment in advancing its reform agenda and Hostmanship ideals.
