The Anyigaemeya Movement has backed comments attributed to Afrobeats star, David Adeleke, popularly known as Davido, and businessman and socialite, Pascal Okechukwu, also known as Cubana Chief Priest, over the political situation in Ebonyi State.
The group, which declared its support for the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) ahead of the 2027 governorship election, also vowed to mobilise support across the 13 local government areas of the state towards unseating the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).
The movement’s position was contained in a statement issued in Abakaliki on Tuesday by its leader, Comrade Igiri Innocent.
Igiri commended Davido, Cubana Chief Priest and other prominent Nigerians for speaking on issues which, according to him, affect the welfare and development of Ebonyians.
He called on more Nigerians at home and in the diaspora to speak up on developments in the state and support what he described as the people’s quest for a “new Ebonyi State” through the PDP governorship candidate, Chief Ifeanyi Chukwuma Odii.
“The group unanimously reaffirmed its support for the Peoples Democratic Party governorship candidate, Chief Ifeanyi Chukwuma Odii, popularly known as Anyichuks, ahead of the 2027 general elections and all the party candidates,” he said.
Igiri challenged the state government to respond to the concerns raised by Davido and Cubana Chief Priest, saying that the administration should account for its performance before the electorate.
He said the movement would intensify grassroots mobilisation ahead of the election, with its structures expected to engage residents at the ward, community and local government levels.
According to him, the objective is to promote democratic participation, educate eligible voters and encourage peaceful participation in the electoral process.
“Our resolve to participate in the 2027 elections and bring about change in Ebonyi State cannot be disrupted. It was the unanimous decision of this group that in 2027 we will ensure that Ebonyi is given a new beginning with fresh air of governance where the lives and development of our people will truly matter,” Igiri stated.
He urged PDP supporters and members of the movement to remain committed to the political project, expressing confidence that the electorate would determine the outcome of the election through the ballot.
“Today, we are calling everyone to service, service to your motherland, service to rescue Ebonyi State and service to consolidate good governance and democracy,” he added.
Igiri further urged members of the group to take the mobilisation campaign to their communities, saying, “Go back to your communities and deliver the message from ward to ward, zone to zone and local government to local government.”
He described Odii as a successful businessman whose private-sector experience, if translated into governance, could contribute to the economic and developmental transformation of the state.
The movement, however, said its campaign would be anchored on democratic participation and peaceful engagement, urging its supporters to shun violence and other actions capable of undermining the electoral process.
The group also declared its doors open to Ebonyi residents irrespective of political, religious or economic affiliation, provided they share its commitment to what it described as democratic change and accountable governance.
