2027: IGM moves to mobilise traders, women nationwide for Tinubu’s re-election

The Iyaloja-General Movement for Renewed Hope Alliance IGM, has announced plans to strengthen its nationwide structures and mobilise traders, women and other grassroots groups in support of President Bola Tinubu’s re-election bid in the 2027 general elections.

The newly appointed National General Secretary of the Movement, Mrs. Obiageli Okwubanego, disclosed this following her appointment by the Iyaloja-General of Nigeria, Chief Dr. Mujidat Folasade Tinubu-Ojo.

Okwubanego said she would work towards expanding the Movement’s grassroots presence and ensuring effective coordination of its structures across the country to achieve its mobilisation objectives.

She expressed appreciation to Tinubu-Ojo for the appointment, describing it as a demonstration of confidence in her leadership ability, administrative experience and commitment to service.

The new National General Secretary also commended the Iyaloja-General for providing opportunities for women to participate in leadership, political engagement and national development.

She pledged to work closely with the National Director-General of IGM, Dr. Nasiru Ladan, members of the National Working Committee, state coordinators and other stakeholders to build a strong and coordinated national structure.

According to her, her immediate priorities include strengthening the national secretariat, improving administrative efficiency, establishing effective communication channels and promoting collaboration among members at the national, state and grassroots levels.

Okwubanego said the Movement would intensify engagement with market leaders, traders, women’s groups and community stakeholders as part of efforts to expand its reach and encourage grassroots participation.

She called on Nigerians, particularly women, traders and other grassroots stakeholders, to participate actively in the democratic process and engage with issues shaping the country’s future.

She said the Movement, under the leadership of the Iyaloja-General, would continue to provide a platform for stakeholder engagement and civic participation while pursuing its objective of mobilising support for Tinubu’s second-term ambition.

Okwubanego, popularly known as Oby Okeke-Okwubanego or Madam Obby, is a businesswoman and real estate developer with experience in the private and public sectors.

She currently serves as Senior Special Assistant to the Anambra State Governor, Prof. Charles Chukwuma Soludo, on Tax and Investment Mobilisation, where she facilitates engagements between investors and the state government.

Her professional engagements include coordinating town hall meetings and investment-focused policy forums for Anambra indigenes in Lagos and Abuja, as well as promoting investment opportunities in the state.

She has also represented the Anambra State Government at international business engagements, including the India-Nigeria Business Forum, where she advocated partnerships and investment opportunities in healthcare and education.

Reaffirming her commitment to the assignment, Okwubanego assured the Iyaloja-General that she would not take the confidence reposed in her for granted.

She urged members of the National Working Committee, state coordinators, market leaders and other stakeholders to embrace unity and work collectively towards building a strong and organised national platform.

She said her tenure would be guided by accountability, inclusiveness and effective service delivery, with emphasis on strengthening the Movement’s grassroots structures and achieving its organisational objectives.
