The Federal Government, through the North East Development Commission (NEDC), has expanded its development footprint in Adamawa State with the commissioning of multiple infrastructure projects aimed at strengthening health, education, water, and road facilities across the region.
Minister of State for Regional Development, Uba Ahmed, led the commissioning on Wednesday, unveiling projects in Yola/Jimeta and across Guyuk, Mayo Belwa, Garkida, Hong, and Madagali Local Government Areas.
In Yola, the Minister inaugurated the newly constructed MRI Block and inspected the ongoing Accident and Emergency project at Modibbo Adama University Teaching Hospital. He also commissioned a 1.1km road, borehole, and solar streetlights at the Federal College of Education, Yola, and upgraded water facilities at the Adamawa State School of Nursing and Midwifery.
Outside the capital, projects included the NEDC Mega School and Skills Acquisition Centre in Guyuk, another Skills Centre in Mayo Belwa, a Primary Health Care Centre in Uba Town (Hong LGA), two 2.5km roads in Garkida and at the College of Education, Hong, and key bridges in Madagali LGA. The Minister also inspected the 10km Fufore–Ribadu road.
During a courtesy visit to the state government, Ahmed commended Governor Ahmadu Fintiri’s leadership for creating an enabling environment for development. He stressed that the projects reflect the Federal Government’s commitment to sustainable growth and will be handed over to the state for proper use and maintenance.
Deputy Governor Kaletapwa Farauta, who received the Minister on behalf of the governor, expressed appreciation and assured that the state government would maintain and upgrade the projects. She also urged for an expanded NEDC presence in Adamawa, citing the pressures faced as a frontline state in the North East.
The interventions underscore the Federal Government’s broader drive to deliver long-term infrastructure and social development outcomes in conflict-affected regions of Nigeria.
