The Galleon Bay Deck of the National Association of Seadogs (NAS), also known as the Pyrates Confraternity, has presented learning materials, school uniforms and footwear to pupils of the Mpape LEA Primary School in Abuja.
The gesture was part of activities marking the 2026 International Literacy Day and was carried out in partnership with the Thompson Henry Legacy Foundation (THLF).
The materials were presented to five out-of-school children who are beneficiaries of a scholarship programme by the organisations.
Speaking at the event, the Capoon of Galleon Bay Deck, Barrister Adie Aplife, commended the school management for its commitment to the education and welfare of the pupils.
Aplife stressed the importance of education in preparing children for their future careers, noting that education remained essential regardless of the profession a child might eventually choose.
He said whether a child aspired to become a footballer, military personnel or pursue any other career, education would remain an important foundation for achieving such ambitions.
Also speaking, a representative of the Thompson Henry Legacy Foundation, Amaya Stephen, told the pupils that the initiative was an expression of NAS’s commitment to supporting their education and wellbeing.
She formally introduced the five pupils selected for the scholarship and urged their colleagues to support and encourage them.
The pupils were also encouraged to take full advantage of the educational opportunities provided through the partnership between NAS and THLF.
The initiative formed part of efforts by the organisations to promote literacy and support children from disadvantaged backgrounds in accessing education.
In her reaction, the Headmistress of Mpape LEA Primary School, Mrs Esther Bulus, alongside members of the school management, staff and pupils, welcomed the initiative and thanked NAS for its support and previous interventions in the school.
