Africa Women Conference AWC, has expressed sadness over the death of veteran Nollywood actor Francis Duru, describing him as a cherished member of its conference family.

The conference said Duru’s longstanding participation and contributions had become part of its history, noting that his presence and dedication would be greatly missed.

In a statement issued on Friday, the Convener of AWC, Dr Jumai Ahmadu, said the actor’s death was particularly painful as the conference prepares for its 10th anniversary edition in Accra, Ghana.

Ahmadu said the anniversary provided an opportunity to reflect on individuals who had contributed to the growth and development of the conference, adding that Duru occupied a treasured place in its history.

She noted that the late actor would be remembered for his contributions to the creative industry and the impact he made on members of the conference community.

The convener said his legacy would continue to live through his body of work and the lives he touched during his lifetime.

On behalf of the conference leadership, partners and members, Ahmadu extended condolences to Duru’s wife, children, extended family, friends and colleagues.

She also prayed that God would comfort and strengthen the family and grant them peace during the difficult period.

“May his soul rest in perfect peace,” she said.
