Governor Douye Diri of Bayelsa on Tuesday advised National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) members deployed to the state not to jeopardise their future for mere temporary pleasure.
The governor gave the advice at the closing of the 2026 Batch B Stream 1 Orientation Course at the NYSC Permanent Orientation Camp, Boro Town, Bayelsa.
The closing ceremony was held at the NYSC Permanent Orientation Camp in Kaiama, Kolokuma/Opokuma Local Government Area, where corps members were encouraged to uphold discipline, integrity and patriotism throughout their one-year national service.
Addressing the corps members, Bayelsa State Governor, urged them to make their service year count by contributing positively to the development of their host communities.
He encouraged them to approach their Places of Primary Assignment with dedication, professionalism and a genuine desire to make a difference through knowledge-sharing and community service.
Represented by his Executive Assistant on NYSC Matters, Mr. Wisdom Poyeri, the governor also called on the corps members to embrace unity, tolerance and peaceful coexistence wherever they are posted.
He assured them of the state government’s continued commitment to their welfare and security, while urging them to apply the lessons and values acquired during the orientation programme in their daily lives.
“The knowledge and experience you have gained during the orientation course should serve as a guiding light, not only for your personal growth but also for the benefit of society,” Diri said.
He further advised the corps members to remain good ambassadors of their families, institutions and the NYSC, stressing that both Bayelsa State and Nigeria look forward to the positive impact they will make during their service year.
“Do not jeopardise your future for temporary pleasure. Remain law-abiding, diligent, focused and worthy ambassadors of the NYSC and your families,” Diri advised.
The governor also cautioned them against unnecessary travel, particularly at night, and encouraged them to remain safety-conscious as they carry out their national assignments.
The ceremony marked the end of the mandatory 21-day orientation exercise and the beginning of the corps members’ deployment to their various Places of Primary Assignment across Bayelsa State.
