Labour Party has urged Nigerians to embrace compassion, sacrifice and peaceful coexistence as Muslims across the country and the world celebrates Eid-el-Kabir.
In a goodwill message issued on Wednesday to commemorate the Islamic festival, the party said Eid al-Adha represents the virtues of faith, obedience, sacrifice and total submission to the will of Allah as demonstrated by Prophet Ibrahim.
The message, signed by the party’s National Publicity Secretary, Eluma Asogwa, noted that the values associated with the celebration remain critical to building a just, peaceful and compassionate society.
The party called on Nigerians to use the period for reflection, renewed spirituality and commitment to the service of humanity, stressing the need for love, humility, tolerance and peaceful coexistence among citizens.
According to the party, the country is currently facing serious challenges, including economic hardship, insecurity, hunger and increasing social and ethno-religious tensions, making the lessons of Eid-el-Kabir more relevant.
“The Labour Party urges Nigerians to embrace compassion, generosity and mutual understanding, especially towards the less privileged and vulnerable in society,” the statement said.
The opposition party also appealed to political leaders and public office holders to govern with justice, fairness, equity and empathy, in line with Islamic teachings on the welfare and protection of the people.
It said leaders at all levels must rise above selfish interests and work sincerely towards alleviating the suffering of Nigerians.
The party further prayed for peace, prosperity and divine guidance for the nation, while wishing Muslims across the country a peaceful and blessed Eid celebration.
“Eid Mubarak to all Nigerians. May this celebration bring abundant blessings, divine mercy, peace and renewed hope to every home,” the statement added.
