Minister of the federal capital territory FCT, Nyesom Wike, has expressed confidence that some major road projects in Abuja will be completed and handed over before the 2027 general elections.
Wike gave the assurance after inspecting some ongoing projects in the nation’s capital, including the High Court project, the Kubwa-Karaduwa road and bridge project, and the road linking Nile University to Ring Road II in Abuja on Monday.
The minister, who said he was initially worried about the pace of work at some of the sites, said he was now satisfied with the progress and commitments given by the contractors.
At the High Court project, Wike commended the contractor, CGC, for the quality of work being carried out and said the company had again assured him that the project would be completed by December.
He also inspected the Kubwa-Karaduwa axis, where work on the second bridge is ongoing.
According to him, the contractor explained that heavy rainfall had slowed down the commencement of earthworks but assured that major earthworks would begin once the rains reduce.
Wike said the contractor had also promised to complete the project before the elections.
At the Nile University, the minister said he was particularly pleased with the progress of the road leading to Ring Road II.
He recalled that during his previous visit to the site, he had expressed concern over the pace of work, but said the situation had improved significantly.
Wike said the contractor, CCC, had assured him that the project would be ready for handover by the first week of January.
The minister said the commitments from the contractors had given him confidence that the FCT Administration would deliver on the promises made to Abuja residents.
“I am very happy that we are on schedule, on course, and the promise made by this administration of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu would be completed before we go for the general elections,” he said.
Wike said he trusted the contractors to keep their promises, noting that the assurances were not the first commitments they had made to the administration.
The minister also spoke on his political activities and his support for President Tinubu’s re-election bid in 2027.
He said his major concern was to ensure that Tinubu secured a second term, adding that he had made his position known from the beginning.
