The Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), Kwara State Command, has arrested two suspects in connection with the alleged vandalisation of transformer cables and other criminal activities in Tanke-Iledu, Ilorin.
The suspects, identified as 20-year-old Nurah Abdullahi, popularly known as Hartabo, and 23-year-old Sherif Abdullahi, were arrested on October 5, 2026, following credible intelligence and an intelligence-led operation by operatives of the Command.
During the operation and subsequent search, NSCDC operatives recovered vandalised transformer cables, cable outer and inner peels, a Bajaj motorcycle, a saw, a knife, a pair of electrical gloves and other items relevant to the investigation.
Preliminary investigations indicate that the suspects are allegedly connected to the vandalisation of electricity infrastructure within the Tanke-Iledu community. Efforts are ongoing to apprehend other persons suspected to be involved in the activities.
The State Commandant, Commandant Abbas Ndah Mohammed, commended the operatives for their vigilance, professionalism and commitment to protecting critical national infrastructure across the state.
The Commandant reiterated that Kwara State would not be allowed to become a safe haven for vandals, criminals or economic saboteurs. He assured residents that the Command would continue to deploy intelligence-led operations to identify arrest and investigate individuals involved in activities capable of threatening public safety and critical infrastructure.
He further warned individuals involved in the vandalisation of public infrastructure to desist from such acts, stressing that the Command remains determined to protect government assets and safeguard the socio-economic wellbeing of the people of Kwara State.
The suspects will be charged to court upon completion of investigations and establishment of a prima facie case, in accordance with the law.
