Kwara Police Arrest 2 Over Alleged Role in Kidnapping

By Kayode Abdulazeez, Ilorin

The Kwara State Police Command has arrested two suspected collaborators accused of facilitating the kidnapping of three persons in Ifelodun Local Government Area, as part of intensified efforts to dismantle kidnapping networks operating in the state.

The Command said the suspects, identified as Sauni Shehu and Auwalu Bala, were arrested through intelligence-led investigations that linked them to the abduction of three victims at Ogele Fulani Camp, via Igbaja, in Ifelodun Local Government Area.

According to a statement issued on Friday by the Police Public Relations Officer, SP Adetoun Ejire-Adeyemi, the suspects are being investigated for alleged criminal conspiracy, aiding and abetting kidnapping, as well as kidnapping.

The police said the two suspects were currently assisting investigators with useful information, while efforts had been intensified to track down and arrest other members of the suspected kidnapping syndicate.

“The suspects are currently assisting the Police with useful information as efforts have been intensified to identify and apprehend every other member of the criminal syndicate,” the statement said.

The Command described the arrests as another breakthrough in its sustained crackdown on criminal elements and their collaborators, stressing that those who aid or facilitate kidnapping would not escape justice.

Kwara State Commissioner of Police, CP Adekimi Ojo, reaffirmed the Command’s commitment to protecting lives and property through intelligence-driven policing and proactive crime prevention.

He urged residents to support security agencies by providing timely, credible and actionable information that could assist ongoing operations against kidnappers and other violent criminals across the state.

“The Command remains resolute in advancing the policing vision of the Inspector-General of Police, anchored on intelligence-led policing, proactive crime prevention, and the protection of lives and property,” the Commissioner said.

He assured members of the public that all information received from residents would be treated professionally and effectively utilised to strengthen security operations across Kwara State.
