May Day: Labour Party Felicitas With Nigerian Workers

By Aaron Ossai

The Labour Party, LP Yesterday joined millions of Nigerians in celebrating workers across the country on this year’s International Workers’ Day.

This was contained in a statement signed.by the party’s National Publicly Secretary, Eluma Asogwa and made available to newsmen in Abuja.

“For us in the Labour Party, this occasion carries deep emotional and historical significance.

“Since the Party’s registration in 2003, our identity and ideals have remained firmly rooted in the struggles and aspirations of the Nigerian worker.

“Today, therefore, is not just symbolic, it is profoundly personal.

“We use this opportunity to call on those in authority to intensify efforts toward improving the welfare of Nigerian workers.

“While we acknowledge the current administration’s steps to ease the harsh realities faced by workers, particularly the recent increase in the minimum wage, we emphasize that much more remains to be done, especially in light of prevailing inflationary pressures.

“The Labour Party commends the Nigerian Labour Congress (NLC), the Trade Union Congress (TUC), and their affiliate unions for their steadfast commitment to the Nigerian project and the protection of workers’ rights.

“We assure Nigerian workers that the Labour Party stands firmly with them and will never abandon the collective struggle for good governance – one that guarantees fair wages and aligns with the ideals and standards of the International Labour Organisation.

“As the nation looks ahead to the coming elections, we urge Nigerian workers to keep faith with the Labour Party for it is the party that genuinely reflects their values and aspirations. We remain confident in the eventual triumph of the people”, the statement read.
