Moniepoint unveils enhanced savings products

By Kehinde Ibrahim, Lagos

MONIPOINT Microfinance Bank has unveiled an enhanced range of savings products designed to provide individuals and businesses with greater flexibility, competitive returns and easier access to their funds as they work towards their financial goals.

The launch, which is supported by a new brand campaign tagged “One Step Ahead,” features Nollywood actress and filmmaker Funke Akindele, popularly known as Jenifa, as the campaign’s lead personality. The initiative reflects Moniepoint’s efforts to respond to changing consumer needs amid economic uncertainty and growing demand for savings solutions that combine financial discipline with flexibility.

The campaign is built around the understanding that unexpected financial demands and irregular income remain major obstacles to consistent saving. According to a recent customer survey cited by the bank, unexpected expenses account for 72.8 per cent of disruptions to savings, while irregular income affects 51 per cent of savers across the country.

Against this backdrop, Moniepoint said its new savings offering is designed to provide customers with options that accommodate different financial circumstances, rather than requiring them to commit to a single rigid savings structure.

Speaking on the initiative, Managing Director of Moniepoint Microfinance Bank, Babatunde Olofin, said the new solutions were developed to address some of the challenges customers face when trying to save and manage their finances.

He said, “These innovative savings solutions were developed specifically to ease customer pain points. Our ecosystem gives everyone the flexibility to grow their money and access it whenever they need it, combined with some of the best rates in the market — an offering that is truly unique.”

According to Olofin, the initiative goes beyond the provision of competitive interest rates, as the bank seeks to help customers develop sustainable financial habits while preparing for both anticipated and unexpected financial needs.

“Our mission is to create financial happiness for everyone. A savings product like this is a critical tool for ensuring people can confidently make their dreams come true while saving for both rainy and sunny days,” he said.

He added that the ability to save consistently could help individuals and businesses make progress towards their financial objectives while providing a cushion against unforeseen circumstances.

“Backed by the reliable digital payments infrastructure we’ve built, our customers can find safety, immediate access to liquidity, and the confidence to stay one step ahead of the future while mitigating the harsh effects of unforeseen circumstances,” Olofin stated.

Moniepoint said the new product range comprises four savings options, each structured to address different lifestyles, financial objectives and cash-flow patterns.

The Target Savings option allows customers to withdraw up to 50 per cent of their savings once without forfeiting their interest, while offering returns of up to 11.5 per cent per annum.

The Flexible Savings product is designed for customers who require more frequent access to their funds. It permits up to four withdrawals in a month without loss of interest and offers a return of 9.5 per cent per annum.

For customers seeking a fixed-term option, the Fixed Deposit product offers interest upfront, with rates of up to 17.5 per cent per annum.

The fourth product, Save As You Transact, enables customers to save while carrying out transactions and provides unrestricted access to their funds.

Moniepoint said, except for premium tiers, customers can begin their savings journey with a minimum deposit of N1,000, making the products accessible to a broad range of individuals and businesses.

The financial institution said the new savings offerings complement its existing digital payments and banking infrastructure, allowing customers to transact, save and earn returns within the same ecosystem.

With a customer base of more than 20 million business banking and personal customers, Moniepoint said the new initiative further strengthens its commitment to expanding access to convenient financial services in Nigeria.

Customers who are not already using Moniepoint can access the bank’s business or personal banking mobile applications, complete the online account-opening process and fulfil the required Know Your Customer (KYC) requirements to begin using the services.

A major feature of the campaign is the involvement of Funke Akindele, whose popular Jenifa’s Diary character provides the creative backdrop for communicating the savings message.

The television series, which debuted in 2015, has grown into one of Nigeria’s popular entertainment franchises and has run for more than 20 seasons. Moniepoint said the familiar salon setting provides an engaging environment for communicating its savings proposition to audiences.

Akindele’s involvement also adds significant entertainment and cultural appeal to the campaign. The actress, filmmaker and producer has established herself as one of the most prominent figures in Nigeria’s film industry, with a career spanning acting, production and filmmaking.

She is also a multiple award winner at the Africa Magic Viewers’ Choice Awards ,AMVCA, while her commercial success has further strengthened her position as one of Nollywood’s leading box-office personalities.

Moniepoint said her extensive influence across Nigeria and the global African entertainment audience makes her a strong fit for a campaign focused on financial aspirations, resilience and staying prepared for the future.

Through the “One Step Ahead” campaign, Moniepoint is positioning savings not merely as a financial obligation but as a practical tool for helping individuals and businesses prepare for opportunities, manage unexpected expenses and pursue their long-term ambitions.

The bank said the enhanced savings portfolio ultimately seeks to give customers greater control over their finances by combining competitive returns with flexibility and convenient access to funds.
