NCDC raises Ebola alert after imported case confirmed in Kenya

By Blessing Bature

The Nigeria Centre for Disease Control and Prevention (NCDC) has heightened disease surveillance and preparedness following the confirmation of an imported case of Ebola disease caused by the Bundibugyo virus in Kenya.

The case, confirmed in Kenya, has been linked to the ongoing Ebola outbreak in the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC), prompting Nigerian health authorities to review the potential risk to the country and strengthen preventive measures.

In a press statement, the NCDC said that as of October 6, 2026, there was no confirmed case of Ebola disease in Nigeria.

The agency, however, said it was working with relevant authorities and partners to assess the risk and reinforce the country’s preparedness against a possible introduction of the disease.

The NCDC urged Nigerians to maintain strict personal hygiene and observe preventive measures to reduce the risk of infection.
