The National Examinations Council (NECO) has released the results of the 2026 Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE).
According to a statement from the Council, 186,291 candidates registered for the examination across 12 subjects. The candidates were drawn from Nigeria’s 36 states, the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), as well as five foreign countries.
The examination, which commenced on April 20, 2026, was successfully concluded on April 30, 2026. The release of the results followed the conclusion of the 2026 BECE Award Committee Meeting held at NECO headquarters in Minna, Niger State.
Chairperson of the Award Committee, Dr. (Mrs.) Folake Olatunji David, Director of Basic Education at the Federal Ministry of Education, who represented the Minister of Education, Dr. Maruf Tunji Alausa, expressed satisfaction with the processes leading to the release of the results. The meeting was also attended by secondary school principals and NECO management.
Meanwhile, the Award Committee approved the date for the 2026 BECE Re-sit examination, scheduled for July 22–23, 2026, covering Mathematics and English Studies. The re-sit is designed for candidates with conditional deficiencies in these subjects, enabling them to remedy gaps and secure certification for admission into Senior Secondary School (SSS1) without repeating a full academic year.
