Nigerian Education Loan Fund, NELFUND,has dismissed claims circulating online that the Federal Government suspended upkeep allowance payments under the student loan scheme, describing the reports as fake and misleading.
A statement was signed by Mrs. Oseyemi Oluwatuyi, Director of Strategic Communications, NELFUND, on Thursday, said the publications, including a fabricated statement falsely attributed to NELFUND and an AI-generated front page purportedly from the Nigerian Tribune were designed to spread panic and distrust among beneficiaries.
“No directive has been issued by the Federal Government or NELFUND regarding the suspension of upkeep allowances,” the fund stated.
It added that the materials in circulation did not originate from NELFUND or any authorized government channel.
NELFUND said the newspaper cover being shared online was AI-generated and does not represent a genuine publication from the Nigerian Tribune.
The agency urged students, stakeholders, and the public to disregard the claims and rely only on information from its official channels and credible media outlets. It also cautioned against sharing unverified content that could cause unnecessary anxiety.
NELFUND reaffirmed its commitment to the transparent disbursement of student loans and upkeep support, saying it remains focused on expanding access to higher education through sustainable financing.
