Ogunu calls for immediate reconstitution of Bayelsa United ahead NNL season

By Adeolu Johnson

Former two-time Board member of Bayelsa United Football Club, Ogunu Miebi Samson has expressed worry over the delay by the state government to constitute the club’s new board ahead of the September kick-off of the 2026/2027 Nigeria National League season.

Ogunu Miebi Samson made this remark while reacting to an online publication made by one Hon. Amos Akposei, backing him to be made the substantive Chairman of the team.

The board of Bayelsa United FC was disbanded by the state government following the team’s relegation from the Nigeria Premier Football League.

Ogunu Miebi, who has fifty years’ experience in football administration, revealed that he has been making contacts with top coaches who understands the terrain of the Nigeria National League (NNL) in order to bring Bayelsa United back to the NPFL.

The veteran football administrator noted that late recruitment of players, poor review of players’ performances and late technical reports were the major challenges that occasioned the club’s poor performance since 2021.

He however called on the timely intervention of the Bayelsa State government, for the team to have a smooth rebuilding process.

Bayelsa United will participate in the 2026/2027 NNL season after being relegated from the NPFL.
