Presidency criticises Peter Obi over frequent party switches, questions readiness to lead

The Presidency has criticised the presidential candidate of the National Democratic Coalition (NDC), Peter Obi, accusing him of frequently changing political parties and questioning his readiness to lead Nigeria.

Special Adviser to President Bola Tinubu on Policy Communication, Daniel Bwala, made the remarks on the Morayo Show, hosted by Morayo Afolabi-Brown.

Bwala said Obi’s decision to join the NDC after belonging to other political parties raises questions about his consistency and ability to manage political challenges. He also criticised opposition politicians working to build a coalition ahead of the 2027 general election, claiming the alliance is made up of politicians who lack clear direction.

According to him, the coalition has continued to experience changes within a short period, showing signs of instability.

Speaking on Obi’s political journey, Bwala alleged that the former Anambra State governor has developed a habit of moving from one political party to another whenever there are disagreements.

He argued that anyone seeking to become Nigeria’s president should be able to handle crises and resolve internal party disputes instead of leaving whenever problems arise.

“The person who wants to govern Nigeria should be able to face challenges. If you cannot manage crises within your own political party, it raises questions about your ability to lead a country,” Bwala said.
