Samuel Onikeku hails athletes’ performances at national trials

Former Technical Director and Board Member of the Athletics Federation of Nigeria,AFN, Samuel Onikeku has praised the outstanding performances of Nigerian athletes at the just concluded All Nigeria National Trials, describing the competition as a strong indication of the country’s growing athletics potential.

Speaking after the trials, Onikeku singled out several athletes for special commendation, highlighting their remarkable performances and personal achievements.

He particularly praised Favour Ashe, winner of the men’s 100m event, for breaking his personal best twice during the competition, describing the sprint star’s performance as exceptional and a sign of bigger things to come.

Onikeku also commended Fakorede, who finished as runner-up in the men’s 100m, for recording his first sub-10 second performance of the season, noting that it reflects his hard work and consistency.

In the women’s category, he applauded Miracle Ezechukwu for achieving a new personal best in the 200m, alongside several other athletes who delivered impressive performances across different events.

According to Onikeku, Nigeria remains richly blessed with athletic talents capable of competing at the highest level on the global stage.

He further expressed optimism about Team Nigeria’s prospects at upcoming international competitions, emphasizing that the early preparation camp in Aberdeen would play a crucial role in boosting athletes’ readiness.

“Nigeria is blessed with enormous talents, and with the early preparation in Aberdeen, I can assure you of many podium finishes,” Onikeku concluded.
