Tinubu inaugurates Karu Township Roads, pledges improved living standards

President Bola Tinubu has said that ongoing road projects across satellite towns in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) are designed to boost the economy and make life easier for residents.

Speaking during the inauguration of the newly rehabilitated and expanded Karu Township Roads in Abuja on Monday, Tinubu, represented by Vice President Kashim Shettima, explained that the project reflects his administration’s commitment to reducing traffic congestion, improving transportation, and raising the standard of living in the FCT.

He noted that the Karu corridor, a major route linking Abuja with neighbouring states, had long been plagued by heavy traffic that disrupted businesses and wasted valuable time for commuters. The expansion and rehabilitation, he said, would ease movement, reduce travel time, and create a better environment for economic activities. “By expanding and rehabilitating these roads, we are not just constructing roads; we are creating opportunities for businesses to grow and improving the daily lives of residents,” Tinubu stated.

The president added that the project is part of his Renewed Hope Agenda, which focuses on modernising infrastructure and ensuring development reaches communities where people live and work. He praised FCT Minister Nyesom Wike for driving rapid development across Abuja, describing the visible transformation as a result of Wike’s commitment to urban renewal. Tinubu also commended Abdul-Val Constructions Limited for delivering the project on schedule and maintaining high standards, saying the company’s performance proves Nigerian contractors can successfully handle major infrastructure projects.

FCT Minister Wike, in his remarks, said the project had transformed Karu’s appearance and improved residents’ lives. He urged Nigerians to appreciate good projects regardless of political affiliations, stressing that quality infrastructure benefits everyone. Wike assured residents that the Tinubu administration remains committed to extending development projects to all communities across the FCT.

Earlier, Abdulkadir Zulkiflu, Coordinator of the Satellite Towns Development Department, explained that the project awarded in August 2025 covers the road linking the Karu Interchange on the Abuja-Keffi Expressway to Customs Clinic Junction, as well as several internal roads including DSS Road, NIA Road, EFCC Road, Hospital Road, and Old CBN Quarters Road. He said the new network would ease traffic, strengthen security, improve drainage, and allow residents to reach Abuja city centre in less than 10 minutes.
