Tinubu seeks Senate confirmation of Tegbe, Enikanolaiye as ministers

President Bola Tinubu has asked the Senate to confirm Engr. Joseph Tegbe as a minister and Ambassador Sola Enikanolaiye as Minister of State.

The President also sought the lawmakers’ approval for the appointment of Rabiu Abdullahi Umar as Chief Executive Officer of the Nigerian Midstream and Downstream Petroleum Regulatory Authority, NMDPRA.

The requests were contained in separate letters to Senate President Godswill Akpabio and read during plenary on Tuesday.

Citing Section 147(2) of the 1999 Constitution, as amended, which empowers the President to nominate ministers subject to Senate confirmation, Tinubu urged lawmakers to consider the nominations promptly.

Tegbe was nominated as Minister of Power last week. His nomination follows the resignation of Adebayo Adelabu, who stepped down to pursue the Oyo State governorship race ahead of the 2027 election.

Like his predecessor, Tegbe hails from Oyo State, and he is a fiscal and economic reform expert with over 35 years of experience in the public and private sectors.

A former Senior Partner and Head of Advisory Services at KPMG Africa, Tegbe led major initiatives in fiscal policy reform, institutional transformation, and governance.

He has also advised government institutions and private organisations on strategic reforms, regulatory frameworks, and investment structuring.

Until his nomination, Tegbe served as Director General and Global Liaison for the Nigeria-China Strategic Partnership, NCSP, where he coordinated bilateral development cooperation between Nigeria and the People’s Republic of China.
