Minister of the Federal Capital Territory FCT, Nyesom Wike, has assured residents of the administration’s commitment to strengthening security and protecting lives and property across the territory.
Wike said the FCT Administration was working closely with security agencies to tackle crime through intensified surveillance, improved community policing and the deployment of modern technology.
The minister gave the assurance in his 2026 Independence Day message to residents of the territory, where he identified the safety and security of residents and visitors as a major priority of his administration.
He said the administration would not relent in its efforts to ensure that Abuja and its surrounding communities remained safe for residents, businesses and visitors.
According to him, the government has intensified security operations across the territory to address criminal activities and improve public safety.
Wike also highlighted the administration’s investment in road infrastructure, drainage systems and solar-powered streetlights in rural communities, noting that improved access and infrastructure would help address insecurity in remote settlements.
He said the administration had extended infrastructural development beyond the city centre to rural communities as part of efforts to improve accessibility and security across the FCT.
The minister urged residents to remain law-abiding, cooperate with security agencies and provide necessary support to government efforts to combat crime.
He also called on residents to protect public infrastructure from vandalism, stressing that the safety and development of the territory required the collective responsibility of government and citizens.
Wike, who described the FCT as a symbol of Nigeria’s unity, said peaceful coexistence among residents of different ethnic, religious and cultural backgrounds was essential to maintaining security and stability.
He urged residents to sustain the spirit of unity and tolerance as the country marks its 66th Independence Anniversary, noting that collective commitment was necessary to build a safe and prosperous capital city.
The minister reaffirmed the administration’s commitment to transforming Abuja into a modern capital city where residents could live, work and thrive in a peaceful environment.
