The Edo State Government weekend received Edo State indigenes who were repatriated from South Africa following the recent xenophobic attacks by South Africans on non citizens living in their country.
The Coordinator of the Office of the Edo State First Lady, Mrs. Edesili Okpebholo Anani, alongside the Director-General of the Edo State Migration Agency, Hon. Chief Lucky Agazuma, led the state delegation to welcome the returnees.
Speaking during the reception, the Coordinator of the Office of the Edo State First Lady, Mrs. Edesili Okpebholo Anani, expressed the state’s heartfelt sympathy over the traumatic experiences endured by the returnees.
She stated that the Edo State Government warmly welcomes them home and stands firmly with them during this difficult period, assuring them that the government is prepared to provide the necessary support to help them rebuild their lives.
She reassured the returnees of the government’s concern for their well-being and its readiness to support them as they reintegrate into society.
Also speaking, the Director-General of the Edo State Migration Agency, Hon. Chief Lucky Agazuma, emphasized that the Edo State Government remains committed to protecting the interests of its citizens and ensuring the successful reintegration of the returnees.
He noted that the state would work closely with relevant agencies and partners to provide appropriate assistance, including psychosocial support.
The returnees expressed gratitude to the Edo State Government for the warm reception and the assurances of support. They thanked the administration’s commitment to prioritizing the welfare of Edo people, promoting safe migration, and ensuring that citizens affected by crises abroad receive the care and assistance needed to begin a new chapter at home.
