Presidential candidate of the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC), Peter Obi, has promised to improve the welfare of police officers and create a better future for security personnel and their families if elected president in 2027.
Speaking in a viral video while addressing police officers, Obi praised their service to the country and said they deserve better treatment and support from government.
He said many Nigerians are currently facing serious economic hardship, with families struggling to meet basic needs, including paying medical bills.
According to him, improving the welfare of security personnel should be a priority because of the important role they play in maintaining peace and order across the country.
“We want to make life better for you because you are doing a great job for the country,” Obi told the officers.
The former Anambra State governor assured them that his administration would focus on their welfare as well as the future of their children.
He said meaningful development can only happen when government policies improve the lives of ordinary citizens.
Obi also stressed the need for equal access to quality education, regardless of a person’s social or economic background.
Recalling his childhood experience, he said he attended the same school as the children of his family’s driver, describing it as the type of society he hopes to build.
According to him, every Nigerian child should have the opportunity to succeed and achieve their dreams irrespective of their family background.
Obi said his vision is to build a country where citizens can live comfortably and where poor families can see their children rise to any position through hard work and access to opportunities.
He urged Nigerians to continue supporting efforts aimed at building a fairer society, adding that quality education, accessible healthcare and improved welfare for security personnel are key to national development.
