President Bola Tinubu has said that the ongoing development of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) reflects his administration’s commitment to delivering the Renewed Hope Agenda across Nigeria.
The President spoke while commissioning the newly completed Collector Road C01 and bridge linking the Body of Benchers, Nile University and Baze University in Abuja’s Institution and research district on Wednesday in Abuja.
Represented by Vice President Kashim Shettima, Tinubu said the project is proof that his government is fulfilling the promises it made to Nigerians.
He said the road will improve movement within the district, reduce traffic congestion and connect schools, residential areas and business centres to other parts of the city.
According to him, work has already started on extending the road to Ring Road III and other parts of Abuja to further improve connectivity.
“We promised Nigerians Renewed Hope, and today this road is another promise fulfilled. We are not just building roads; we are creating opportunities for development and economic growth,” he said.
The President recalled that the Institution and Research District was designed in the Abuja Master Plan to serve as the nation’s education and research hub but lacked adequate road infrastructure for many years.
He said the decision to build the road followed complaints by the Body of Benchers during last year’s Nigerian Law School Call to Bar ceremony over poor access to the area.
Tinubu said he immediately directed the Minister of the FCT, Nyesom Wike, to address the problem through emergency procurement.
He noted that the completed project has made access easier, improved safety and created a better environment for students, lecturers, legal professionals and residents.
The President also said the construction created jobs and would encourage more investments in the district.
According to him, good roads open up communities, attract businesses and support economic growth.
Tinubu praised Wike for the pace of development in the FCT, describing him as a leader committed to delivering results.
He said the series of project inaugurations taking place across Abuja shows that the administration is focused on improving the lives of Nigerians.
The President urged the Body of Benchers, the management of Nile University and Baze University, students and residents to protect the new road and bridge for the benefit of everyone.
He assured Nigerians that his administration would continue investing in infrastructure in cities, satellite towns and rural communities across the country.
“The transformation taking place in Abuja is a reflection of the transformation we want to achieve across Nigeria,” he said.
Earlier, the minister of the federal capital territory FCT , Nyesom Wike, thanked President Tinubu for providing the support that has enabled the FCT Administration to execute several infrastructure projects.
He said the President’s decision to remove the FCT Administration from the Treasury Single Account (TSA) improved access to funds and made it easier to deliver projects.
