Barau lauds Tinubu over ₦37bn allocation for Kano–Gwarzo–Dayi Road

The Deputy President of the Senate, Senator Barau Jibrin, has commended President Bola Tinubu for allocating ₦37 billion to the ongoing Kano–Gwarzo–Dayi Road project in this year’s budget.

Senator Barau, who represents Kano North Senatorial District, gave the commendation while responding to a motion by Senator Kamorudeen Olalere, Accord Party, Osun, on the reconstruction of the Ibadan–Ikire–Ife–Ilesha road. He noted that the President’s road projects cut across the country.

The Federal Government had, on June 11, 2021, flagged off the construction of the dual carriageway from Kano to Dayi town in Katsina State.

The single‑lane Kano–Gwarzo–Dayi road, spanning about 100 kilometres, is being reconstructed into a dual carriageway to ease transportation within the axis and facilitate the movement of farm produce from rural areas to markets across neighbouring states.

The Deputy Senate President, who recently traveled through the Abuja–Kaduna road, also expressed satisfaction with the pace of work on that route.

“Senator Olalere is not of the APC, he belongs to the opposition, but he has come out to commend the President for what he’s doing for the people of Osun, Oyo and Ekiti states. I think others should take a cue from this,” Barau said.

“The President is doing well. Even in my own side of the country, there is a road from Kano to Dayi. Recently, ₦37bn has been provided to continue the work on that road, despite the paucity of funds being faced globally.

“We commend Mr President for that. Also, the Abuja‑Kaduna‑Kano road is being constructed round the clock. Of course, the Lagos‑Calabar road is ongoing, and so are many other roads.

“So the President is doing very well and we commend him for the good work he’s doing in constructing roads all over the country. We have a full commendation and gratitude to Mr President,” he said.
