Tinubu Approves N2bn Relief For Victims Of Plateau Killings

President Bola Tinubu has approved N2 billion in relief support for victims of the March 29 attack in Angwan Rukuba, Jos North Local Government Area of Plateau State, as part of the Federal Government’s response to the deadly incident.

The Minister of Humanitarian Affairs and Poverty Alleviation, Dr Mohammed Dorro, disclosed this at the State House, Abuja, during a three-hour interactive session between the President and a 32-member delegation of Plateau stakeholders.

The development was confirmed in a statement issued on Wednesday by the President’s Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, titled ‘Plateau Leaders Commit To Peace At Interactive Session With President Tinubu; FG Approves N2bn For Victims.’

According to the statement, “At the interactive session, the Minister of Humanitarian Affairs and Poverty Alleviation, Dr Mohammed Dorro, announced that President Tinubu had approved N2bn in relief support for victims of the March 29 attack in Angwan Rukuba, Jos.”

The approval follows a commitment made by the President during his emergency visit to Jos on April 2, days after gunmen attacked residents returning from Palm Sunday church services, killing more than 27 people in one of the deadliest recent incidents in the state.

At the time, Tinubu directed the minister to compile detailed data on affected victims and their losses to guide a compensation framework.

The high-level delegation at the Abuja meeting comprised key political, traditional, and religious figures, including all living former governors of Plateau State, prominent traditional rulers, and senior government officials.

Leading the delegation, Governor Caleb Mutfwang reaffirmed the state’s readiness to embrace peace and unity, describing the gathering as historic.

“Our coming here today shows that there is a renewed spirit on the Plateau that we want to be together,” Mutfwang said.

“We are determined more than ever to close all our gaps, rise above divisions of religion and ethnicity, and build a state we can all be proud of,” he added.
