The Nigeria Customs Service, NCS, has set an ambitious revenue target of N11.074 trillion for the 2026 fiscal year.

This represents a 68% increase over the N6.584 trillion target for 2025, which the Service exceeded by N674 billion after generating N7.277 trillion.

Comptroller-General of Customs, Bashir Adewale Adeniyi, disclosed this on Monday during the 2026 budget defence session before the Senate and House of Representatives Committees on Customs.

Adeniyi told the joint committee that out of the projected N11.074 trillion for 2026, N4.43 trillion had already been realised as at May 31, 2025.

For 2026, the Service proposed a total expenditure of N1.235 trillion while e breakdown shows N421 billion for personnel cost, N307 billion for overhead, and N565 billion for capital expenditure.

On 2025 performance, the Comptroller General said while the target was N6.584 trillion, actual collection stood at N7.277 trillion, representing a 10.24% positive variance of N674 billion.

He however noted that revenue could have been higher but for government policies such as CNG/Electric Vehicles tariff waivers and the yet-to-be-implemented Green Tax.

“In 2026, despite the major elephant in the room which is the crisis in the Middle East, Customs is determined to achieve its revenue target of N11.074 trillion or even surpass it,” Adeniyi said.

Members of the Senate and House Committees on Customs commended President Bola Tinubu for extending the tenure of the Comptroller-General for six months.

Chairman of the Senate Committee on Customs, Senator Jibrin Isah, (APC Kogi East), congratulated Adeniyi on the extension and applauded reforms under his leadership.

“Customs under your leadership has been transformed through series of revenue generating reforms, improved anti-smuggling measures, improved trade facilitation and provision of required infrastructure for ease of doing business.

“Please work harder in 2026 to actualize your budget dreams and projections,” Isah said.

The Committee thereafter put the 2026 budget proposal of the NCS to a voice vote and it was unanimously approved by members present.
