About 100 pupils of the LEA Primary School, City Gate, Durumi 2, Abuja, have received school bags and educational materials from the Wisewisdom Charity Foundation.
The gesture, carried out under the theme, “Building Tomorrow Today: One Bag, One Child,” was aimed at helping children from less privileged backgrounds get the basic materials needed for their education.
The foundation said the intervention was also designed to help reduce the gap between children from different economic backgrounds and give the beneficiaries a greater sense of confidence and belonging in school.
Speaking during the presentation, Convener of the foundation, Peter Olumuji, said providing children with the right educational tools could make a meaningful difference in their lives.
Olumuji, who spoke alongside members of the foundation’s Board of Trustees, said the initiative was part of efforts to support quality education and promote equal opportunities for children.
He explained that the programme supports the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals, particularly those focused on quality education, reduction of inequality and partnerships for development.
The initiative also attracted officials of the Federal Capital Territory Administration (FCTA), who stressed the need for greater attention to children from low-income families.
The Director, FCT Department of Reforms Coordination and Service Improvement, Jumai Ahmadu, said supporting children who may struggle to afford basic school materials was important to ensuring that every child had access to education.
She said interventions targeted at vulnerable pupils could help prevent poverty from becoming a barrier to their education.
Also speaking, Head of Enforcement, FCT Social Development Secretariat, Ukachi Adebayo, commended the foundation for taking its intervention directly to the community.
Adebayo pledged continued support for initiatives capable of improving the welfare and educational opportunities of children in underserved communities.
The Headmistress of the school, Helen Adejare, thanked the foundation for the donation, saying the materials would be useful to the pupils.
She appealed to other individuals als, organisations and corporate bodies to support schools and children in need, stressing that such assistance could go a long way in improving learning conditions.
The foundation said it would continue to focus on practical interventions that address the immediate needs of underserved children and help prepare them for a better future.
