Heartland head coach Emmanuel Amuneke says his players are showing a better understanding of the game as the Naze Millionaires prepare for the 2026/2027 Nigeria National League (NNL) season.
Amuneke said the team’s preparations over the past months have focused on improving players’ decision-making both in possession and when defending, which he considers crucial to achieving results.
The former Super Eagles winger explained that controlling games and creating scoring opportunities require the right decisions on the ball, while defensive organisation is equally important to prevent opponents from exploiting spaces.
“I think these are the key big moments in football. When you have the ball, what decisions are you making to achieve your objectives, which are to control the game and score? When you don’t have the ball, how are you reacting to close the possible spaces that your opponent might exploit?” Amuneke said.
The Heartland coach expressed satisfaction with the progress made by the squad, praising the players’ willingness to learn and adapt to his methods ahead of the new campaign.
“I am happy that this crop of players are able to understand this now. When you have such players that are willing and coachable, it is a thing of joy for you as a coach,” he added.
The Naze Millionaires will hope their tactical development translates into strong performances as they begin their quest for a successful NNL campaign.
