Governor Uba Sani has pledged that the Kaduna State Government will take responsibility for the welfare of the family of the late Malama Ummulkhairi Usman Aliyu, who was brutally lynched by a mob at Maraban Jos, Igabi LGA.
During a condolence visit over the weekend, the governor assured the bereaved family that the state will cater for the upkeep of her husband and four children, including sponsoring their education.
Malama Ummulkhairi, an Islamic teacher, was attacked and killed by a mob who accused her of attempting to kidnap children. Her body was subsequently set ablaze, sparking widespread outrage.
Governor Sani condemned the mob action in strong terms, vowing that all those responsible would face the full weight of the law. He disclosed that investigations have made significant progress, with 41 suspects charged with culpable homicide, another 41 investigated, and 30 suspects arraigned for unlawful assembly.
He stressed that everyone found culpable, regardless of status or influence, would be prosecuted to deter future acts of mob justice. The governor also called for a probe into the conduct of security personnel during the incident, particularly the Divisional Police Officer in charge of Maraban Jos, to determine possible negligence or complicity.
Reiterating his administration’s commitment to protecting lives, Governor Sani urged residents to remain calm, cooperate with security agencies, and support efforts to strengthen peace and lawfulness in Kaduna State.
