SGF condemns killing of MACBAN chairman in Benue

By Sunday Ogli, Makurdi

The Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF), Senator George Akume, has expressed outrage over the gruesome killing of the Benue State Chairman of the Miyetti Allah Cattle Breeders Association of Nigeria (MACBAN), Alhaji Ardo Risku, and his associate, Yakubu Isah, in Otukpo LGA.

In a statement by his Special Adviser on Media and Publicity, Yomi Adunuga, Akume described the act as “reprehensible, unacceptable and a direct assault on peace, reconciliation and mutual trust” painstakingly rebuilt across Benue communities.

He noted that the incident occurred at a time when the state had been recording improvements in security and peaceful coexistence among its diverse ethnic, cultural, and religious groups. Akume warned that enemies of peace must not be allowed to reverse these gains.

Recalling his tenure as governor, when he consistently preached unity, Akume reiterated that sustainable development and prosperity can only thrive in an atmosphere of peace, tolerance, and mutual respect. He urged communities to reject attempts by criminal elements to sow discord and reprisals.

The SGF extended condolences to the family of the late Risku, MACBAN members, and all affected, while calling on the Nigeria Police, DSS, and other security agencies to conduct a thorough investigation and ensure perpetrators face justice.

He stressed that “the lives of every Nigerian are sacred” and insisted that justice must not only be done but seen to be done. Akume further reaffirmed President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s commitment to confronting insecurity nationwide, urging residents to remain calm, cooperate with security agencies, and support efforts to strengthen peace and security in Benue State.
