The Labour Party has announced the rescheduling of its 2027 primary elections earlier fixed for 27th May and 29th May 2026.
This was contained in a statement signed by the party’s National Publicity Secretary, Eluma Asogwa and made available to newsmen.
According to the party, all primaries for the positions of President, Governor, Senate, House of Representatives, and State Houses of Assembly will now take place simultaneously on Saturday, 30th May 2026.
The governorship and State Houses of Assembly primaries were initially slated for 27th May 2026, while the presidential and National Assembly primaries were scheduled for 29th May 2026.
The adjustment, the party explained, became necessary because the earlier dates coincide with two major national events. The 27th May date falls within the 2026 Eid el-Kabir (Eid al-Adha) celebration, while 29th May marks the third anniversary of the inauguration of elected public office holders across Nigeria.
The Labour Party stated that, in recognition of the spiritual significance of the Sallah celebration and the national importance of the May 29 anniversary, it decided to revise the timetable to allow members, aspirants, supporters, and Nigerians at large to fully participate in the events.
The party also expressed regret over any inconvenience the change may cause and appealed for the understanding and cooperation of all stakeholders.
