Nigeria Immigration Service (NIS), in collaboration with the International Organization for Migration (IOM) and with support from the European Union, has concluded a three-day top management workshop to review Nigeria’s National Border Management Strategy (NBMS) and its Action Plan.
The workshop, held in Niger State, was organised as part of preparations for the next 2027–2031 policy cycle.
The engagement provided a platform for NIS top management and its partners to assess progress made under the existing framework, exchange perspectives and identify priority areas for strengthening Nigeria’s border management system.
Speaking at the workshop, the Comptroller-General of NIS, Kemi Nanna Nandap, stressed the need for the next strategy to be anchored on credible migration data, effective implementation mechanisms and sustained inter-agency collaboration.
Nandap said the review must produce a clear and actionable framework capable of addressing emerging border management and security challenges, while positioning Nigeria to provide leadership in integrated border management across Africa.
The workshop featured strategic discussions, technical sessions, group presentations and consolidation of review outcomes.
It was followed by an NIS Executive Management Endorsement Session, where participants considered key recommendations, prioritised interventions, examined financing options and validated the proposed strategic direction for the 2027–2031 policy cycle.
The NIS said the engagement further demonstrated its commitment, alongside its partners, to sustained collaboration and continuous improvement in border management.
