The House of Representatives Committee on Housing and Habitat has granted the Management of the MOFI Real Estate Investment Fund (MREIF) a one-week extension to appear before the Committee as part of an ongoing investigation into the Fund’s administration and operations.
The Committee had earlier summoned the Managing Director/Chief Executive Officer of MREIF, Dr. Armstrong Ume Takang, alongside members of the Fund’s management team, to appear on Tuesday, June 2, 2026, for a comprehensive review of the Fund’s implementation, performance, and several petitions submitted to the Committee.
Chairman of the Committee, Hon. Abdulmumin Jibrin, said the probe is aimed at ensuring that the administration and performance of MREIF align with the expectations of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and the objectives of the Federal Government’s housing agenda.
According to him, the Committee intends to thoroughly examine the Fund’s activities and address concerns raised in the petitions before it.
In a letter to the Committee, Dr. Takang acknowledged receipt of the summons and reaffirmed MREIF’s commitment to legislative oversight and cooperation with the National Assembly. He explained that he was outside Abuja on an official assignment arranged before the summons was received and requested a new date for the hearing.
The MREIF CEO also assured lawmakers of the Fund’s willingness to fully cooperate with the investigation and maintain a productive partnership with the legislature.
Responding to the request, Hon. Jibrin said the Committee had, in the interest of fairness and cooperation, approved a one-week extension and rescheduled the hearing to Tuesday, June 9, 2026.
He stressed that the postponement was granted specifically to ensure the personal attendance of the Managing Director/CEO, noting that his appearance is crucial to the Committee’s inquiry.
The Committee Chairman reaffirmed lawmakers’ commitment to a thorough and objective investigation, emphasizing the need to ensure that MREIF fulfills its mandate of expanding access to affordable homeownership in line with the vision of the Tinubu administration.
He added that the Committee remains focused on addressing all issues contained in the petitions and ensuring transparency, accountability, and effective implementation of the housing initiative.
Hon. Jibrin further stated that the Committee expects Dr. Takang and the entire MREIF management team to appear before it on June 9, 2026.
