Spokesman of the House of Representatives, Hon. Akin Rotimi Jr. has emerged victorious in the All Progressives Congress, APC primary election for Ekiti North I (Ikole/Oye) Federal Constituency, securing a commanding win in 22 of the 24 wards across the constituency.
The keenly contested primary featured nine aspirants, with the incumbent defeating former 7th Assembly lawmaker, Bimbo Daramola, alongside other contenders including Erelu Kemi Elebute-Halle, Mr. Gbenga Joseph, Prince Ayorinde Ejioye, and Engr. Ayo Omotosho.
Ahead of the exercise, momentum steadily shifted in favour of the incumbent as three aspirants — Chief Mrs. Funke Owoseni, Mr. Kayode Omoboya, and Barr. Yemi Ayodele Ayeni — stepped down from the race and openly endorsed Rotimi’s re-election bid.
The growing support for the lawmaker became more evident two days before the primaries when political stakeholders from across the constituency gathered for a large-scale endorsement event. The meeting brought together chairmen of all eight local government areas and Local Council Development Areas, councillors, ward chairmen, women and youth leaders, as well as other prominent political figures in Ekiti State. Speakers at the event praised Rotimi’s representation as impactful, accessible, and focused on delivering results.
The primary outcome also reflects the shifting political landscape in Ekiti North I, particularly for Bimbo Daramola, who has repeatedly sought a return to the National Assembly since leaving office in 2015 without success. Rotimi had earlier defeated Daramola in the 2023 general election, reinforcing his growing influence and grassroots support within the constituency.
Hon. Rotimi has built a reputation in the 10th Assembly for strong legislative communication, visible parliamentary engagement, and active participation in national conversations. His role has further increased his prominence within the National Assembly.
The APC primary was conducted peacefully and competitively, highlighting the party’s internal democratic process while delivering a decisive mandate for the incumbent ahead of the next general election cycle.
