NIGERIA’S drive towards a digitally enabled economy has gained fresh momentum as global technology services company TeKnowledge and digital infrastructure provider Equinix have announced a strategic partnership to expand cloud adoption, strengthen cybersecurity, and develop AI-ready digital infrastructure across Nigeria and the wider West African region.
The collaboration is expected to support enterprises and public sector institutions in accelerating their digital transformation journeys by providing secure, scalable, and resilient infrastructure capable of supporting artificial intelligence ,AI, advanced analytics, and other emerging digital technologies. The initiative also aligns with ongoing efforts to deepen digital innovation while enhancing data security and regulatory compliance.
The companies, in a joint statement released on Thursday, said the partnership combines Equinix’s globally interconnected data centre ecosystem and secure digital infrastructure with TeKnowledge’s expertise in artificial intelligence, data solutions, customer experience, and cybersecurity services.
According to the firms, the alliance is designed to enable organisations to modernise their IT environments through secure hybrid and multi-cloud deployments while ensuring compliance with evolving data sovereignty and regulatory requirements.
They noted that the growing adoption of cloud computing, AI applications, digital financial services, and data-driven technologies across West Africa has significantly increased the demand for secure, locally hosted, and highly resilient digital infrastructure capable of supporting mission-critical operations.
Under the partnership, customers are expected to benefit from low-latency private connectivity, enhanced cybersecurity capabilities, improved regulatory compliance, and local data hosting solutions that ensure sensitive information remains within national borders while strengthening confidence in digital platforms.
The companies said the collaboration supports Nigeria’s Digital Transformation Agenda and the National Artificial Intelligence Strategy by providing trusted digital infrastructure that enables innovation across critical sectors of the economy.
Beyond technology deployment, the partnership is also expected to contribute to capacity building and employment generation by leveraging TeKnowledge’s global workforce of more than 2,000 engineers, including a significant number of Nigerian technology professionals, to design, implement, and manage complex digital transformation initiatives.
President and Chief Executive Officer of TeKnowledge, Aileen Allkins, said organisations across Africa are increasingly seeking digital infrastructure that delivers both high performance and robust security while meeting regulatory obligations.
She explained that the partnership with Equinix would provide customers with the infrastructure needed to accelerate cloud adoption, strengthen operational resilience, and unlock greater value from artificial intelligence and other emerging technologies.
Managing Director of Equinix West Africa, Wole Abu, said the collaboration brings together Equinix’s global platform of more than 280 data centres serving over 10,000 customers worldwide with TeKnowledge’s deep technical expertise and local market knowledge.
According to him, the partnership will enable organisations across West Africa to embrace AI-powered innovation, expand cloud adoption, and build secure and resilient digital ecosystems that support long-term business growth.
Also speaking, TeKnowledge’s Territory Director for Africa, Olugbolahan Olusanya, said successful digital transformation requires more than deploying technology platforms, stressing the importance of strategic implementation and local expertise.
He noted that the collaboration would simplify the deployment of secure hybrid cloud environments, strengthen cybersecurity resilience, and deliver infrastructure strategies tailored to the unique operational and regulatory realities of African markets.
The companies disclosed that the initial phase of the partnership will focus on industries where secure and scalable digital infrastructure is becoming increasingly essential, including financial services, fintech, telecommunications, government institutions, healthcare, energy and utilities, as well as digital-native enterprises.
They added that the initiative is expected to strengthen Nigeria’s digital ecosystem, improve cybersecurity readiness, promote responsible AI adoption, and support the Federal Government’s vision of building a secure, connected, and innovation-driven digital economy.
