The Federal Government has partnered with Harmony Gardens and Estate Development Limited to deliver 5,000 housing units in Lagos State under its Renewed Hope Housing Programme.
The project, located at Ibeju-Lekki, is expected to provide Nigerians at home and in the diaspora with opportunities to own residential properties through mortgage financing and flexible payment arrangements.
The Federal Ministry of Housing and Urban Development disclosed that its application platform for interested and eligible Nigerians would soon be opened, following the groundbreaking ceremony for the project held on Friday, October 30, 2026, at Lekki Aviation Town, Yegunda Government Resettlement Scheme, Ibeju-Lekki.
The 5,000 housing units will be developed across Lekki Aviation Town, The Parliament and GranVille Estate within 36 months.
Interested Nigerians have been advised to begin exploring available mortgage opportunities through the Federal Mortgage Bank of Nigeria (FMBN) and their respective mortgage banks ahead of the commencement of the application process.
Speaking at the groundbreaking ceremony, the Minister of Housing and Urban Development, Muttaqha Rabe Darma, said President Bola Tinubu remained concerned about the country’s estimated 15 million housing deficit, which he said affected approximately 120 million Nigerians.
The minister disclosed that the Federal Government was considering a nationwide social housing initiative involving the construction of 100 housing units in each local government area, alongside a proposed 100,000-unit housing programme.
He said feasibility assessments and costing exercises were ongoing to accommodate differences in construction costs across states and ensure that the proposed projects addressed the housing needs of Nigerians.
The Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer of Harmony Gardens, Audullahi Saheed Mosadoluwa, described the partnership as an opportunity to make homeownership more accessible through structured mortgage financing and flexible payment arrangements.
Mosadoluwa said the initiative was designed not just to construct residential buildings but also to develop sustainable communities where Nigerians could acquire homes without depending entirely on outright payments.
He urged parents seeking to secure residential properties for their children in Lagos, as well as Nigerians in the diaspora planning to return home or provide accommodation for their families, to explore the opportunities offered by the programme.
According to him, homeownership should not remain an aspiration reserved for people who can afford full upfront payments, particularly when mortgage arrangements can provide alternative routes for eligible Nigerians.
He reaffirmed the company’s commitment to completing the 5,000 housing units within the agreed 36-month period, with supporting infrastructure and attention to environmental sustainability and community development.
Traditional rulers at the ceremony commended the Federal Government’s decision to partner with an indigenous real estate developer, describing the collaboration as an important contribution to addressing the country’s housing challenges.
Among the monarchs were the Onikosi of Ikosi in Kosofe, Lagos State, Oba Samuel Alamu Kehinde Oloyede; the Onirete of Irete-Ijebu Kingdom, Oba Abdulganiyu Olusegun Awokoya-Yesufu; and the Oloja of Epe Land, Oba Kamorudeen Ishola Animashaun.
The traditional rulers expressed confidence in Harmony Gardens’ capacity to deliver the project, citing the company’s contributions to residential development, infrastructure provision and community welfare.
Also speaking, Damola Akinyelure of Metroscape acknowledged Mosadoluwa’s contributions to housing development, particularly his involvement in the delivery of 4,000 housing units in Karsana, Abuja.
He said the participation of indigenous private developers in large-scale housing projects demonstrated the role the private sector could play in supporting the Federal Government’s housing delivery efforts.
The ceremony attracted representatives of the National Assembly, the Federal and Lagos State governments, traditional institutions, the business community and the entertainment industry.
The project is expected to increase Lagos State’s housing stock, generate construction-related employment and stimulate economic activities along the Lekki-Epe corridor.
Meanwhile, the Federal Ministry of Housing and Urban Development said eligible Nigerians interested in acquiring the houses could begin making enquiries through the FMBN or their respective mortgage banks.
Prospective applicants seeking information on available housing options, eligibility requirements, documentation and mortgage procedures may also contact Harmony Gardens on 08034775527.
The ministry said formal applications would be subject to the official opening of its application platform, applicable eligibility requirements and mortgage approval where financing was required.
